Terms of Service
The agreement between you and Dans MTG. It covers your account, how credits and subscriptions work, when you can get money back, and — importantly — the limits of what this tool promises.
The short version. Dans MTG tells you what a card probably is and what stores are probably asking for it. It is a research aid, not an appraisal, and it is sometimes wrong. Check anything that matters before you spend money on it. If we do get something wrong, what you can recover from us is limited — but nothing here takes away the rights the Australian Consumer Law gives you.
1. Who you're dealing with
Dans MTG ("Dans MTG", "we", "us") is the Chrome extension and the associated service operated from dansmtg.com. Contact for anything in these terms: support@dansmtg.com.
These terms apply when you install the extension or create an account. If you don't accept them, don't use the service.
2. The service is in beta
Dans MTG is in public beta and under active development. Features change, break and occasionally disappear. Availability is not guaranteed, and there is no uptime commitment. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the service — including individual price sources — at any time.
3. Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old to hold an account. If you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission — particularly before making any payment.
- One account per person. Keep your password to yourself; you're responsible for what happens under your account.
- Tell us promptly at support@dansmtg.com if you think someone else has access to it.
- You can ask us to delete your account and its data at any time — see the Privacy Policy.
4. What you may and may not do
Use Dans MTG to look up cards. Don't use it to:
- resell, sublicense or redistribute the service or its results as your own product;
- scrape, bulk-export or systematically harvest data from the service, or use it to build a competing database;
- automate the extension, drive it from a script, or run it other than as a person using a browser;
- work around credit costs, rate limits, or any other technical restriction;
- break the law, infringe anyone's rights, or breach the terms of the sites you use it on.
We can suspend or close an account that does any of these, or that is being used in a way that threatens the service or other users.
5. Credits
- Credits are a prepaid entitlement to use features of the service. They are not money, not a stored-value facility, and have no cash value. They can't be transferred, sold, or exchanged for cash.
- What each action costs, and how the community cost-sharing and refunds work, is described on the home page and in the full guide. Those costs can change — we'll say so on the site when they do.
- Free credits granted on sign-up or as a goodwill gesture may be varied or withdrawn at any time.
- If we close your account because you breached clause 4, unused credits are forfeited. If we close or discontinue the service for any other reason, see clause 6.
6. Subscriptions and payments
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the interval shown at checkout, at the then-current price, until you cancel. Cancel any time from the billing portal in the extension.
- Cancelling stops the next renewal. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you've already paid for.
- Credit packs are one-off purchases and do not renew.
- If we permanently discontinue the service, we'll cancel active subscriptions and refund the unused portion of the current billing period.
- Prices are in the currency shown at checkout and include any applicable taxes unless stated otherwise.
7. Refund policy
This sits alongside — and never replaces — your Australian Consumer Law rights in clause 11.
- Subscriptions. Cancel within 14 days of a charge and you can have that charge refunded in full, provided you've used no more than 10% of the credits it granted. After that, we refund the unused portion of the current period on request.
- Credit packs. Refundable in full within 14 days if unused. If partly used, we refund pro-rata for the credits you still hold.
- Credits consumed by a failed or wrong result. If a scan fails, returns the wrong card, or a price doesn't load, email us and we'll put the credits back. This is the normal remedy and we don't argue about it — that's what the beta is for.
- Accidental or duplicate charges are refunded in full, always.
- Refunds go back to the original payment method via Stripe, usually within 5–10 business days.
To request any refund, email
support@dansmtg.com from your account's email address. We aim to respond within 5 business days. Please contact us before raising a chargeback — it's almost always faster.
8. Accuracy — please read this one
This is the most important clause in these terms, because it's the one people are most likely to be caught by.
- Card identification is automated and can be wrong. It's performed by an AI model reading a photo. It can misread a collector number, miss a foil stamp, confuse similar printings or artwork, or identify the wrong card entirely. The confidence figure shown is an estimate, not a guarantee.
- Prices are indicative and often stale. They're gathered from retailers' public pages and cached for up to 24 hours. A price shown here may not be the price at the store, and stock counts may be wrong or out of date.
- Nothing here is a valuation, an appraisal, or financial or investment advice. Card values are volatile and the numbers shown are not an opinion about what anything is worth.
- We are not a party to your transactions. If you buy, sell, bid on or trade a card, that's between you and the other party. We're not involved and take no responsibility for it.
- Verify before you commit money. Confirm the card and the price on the store's own page, or in person, before you buy, sell or bid.
9. Third-party stores and data
Dans MTG links to and reports prices from independent retailers and data sources. We don't control them, don't endorse them, and aren't responsible for their sites, stock, prices, terms or conduct. Store names are used to identify whose price is being shown; all store names and logos belong to their owners.
Card data and card images are supplied by Scryfall. Magic: The Gathering and all associated card names and images are trademarks and copyrights of Wizards of the Coast LLC. Dans MTG is an independent tool and is not produced by, endorsed by, supported by or affiliated with Wizards of the Coast.
10. Intellectual property
The extension, the website and the service are ours. These terms give you a personal, revocable, non-exclusive licence to use them — nothing more. Your collection data stays yours; you licence us only what we need to run the service for you.
11. Australian Consumer Law, warranties and liability
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot be excluded. If the ACL applies, our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded, and you may be entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and to compensation for reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.
Subject to that paragraph, and to the maximum extent the law allows:
- the service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind — including that it will be accurate, uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose;
- we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, revenue, data, goodwill, or anticipated savings;
- we are not liable for any loss arising from a card being identified incorrectly, a price being wrong, stale or missing, or a decision you made to buy, sell, bid on or value a card;
- where our liability can be limited but not excluded, we limit it to resupplying the service or paying the cost of resupply;
- our total aggregate liability to you for all claims in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of the amount you actually paid us in that period and AU$50.
You're responsible for your own use of the service, including any breach of a third-party site's terms that results from how you use it.
12. Ending the agreement
You can stop using Dans MTG and close your account at any time. We can suspend or close your account if you breach these terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the service. Clauses 8 to 11 survive the end of this agreement.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Australia, and you and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of its courts. If any provision is unenforceable, it's severed and the rest continues to apply.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service changes. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version. For minor changes, continuing to use the service means you accept them. For material changes — particularly to credits, pricing, refunds or liability — we'll ask you to accept the new terms in the extension before you carry on using it.
15. Contact
Questions, complaints, refund requests and anything else: support@dansmtg.com. A real person reads everything that arrives.
